What's the weather
like with you?
As many of you will be aware, the Tenerife is known as the Island of
Eternal Spring; enjoying warm winters (Av. 22°C) and pleasant summers
(Av. 27°C). The all year sunshine means that there are no seasonal extremes
to worry about. The winters are never cold, but the summer is never unbearably
hot either. This moderate climate is what draws people to buy property
in Tenerife, either to live in or to use as an all-year holiday retreat.
When comparing the North and South however, there are some different
climatic characteristics. With the North being on the windward side of
the island, it tends to receive about three quarters of all the rain,
which falls almost exclusively in the La Orotava mountain range. However,
although there are some climatic differences in these two regions, it
has to be viewed in context with what we are used to back at home as the
general overall annual precipitation across the entire island is very
low indeed.
As an anecdote, it is interesting to note that doctors from northern
Europe, mainly English and Dutch, have over the last few centuries, praised
the climate of Tenerife, and have even recommended patients to temporarily
move there to alleviate ailments. Whatever time of year you visit Tenerife,
you can’t help but be uplifted by the fresh air and warm weather that
welcome each new visitor in the same everlasting way.
